Three left-backs Celtic could sign if Marcelo Saracchi doesn’t return from Boca Juniors

Not many Celtic signings have worked out, but one player who deserves his flowers is Marcelo Saracchi.

The on-loan Boca Juniors left-back had a brilliant debut campaign at Celtic, and many fans would argue that he should be re-signed for next season.

A recent report in the Argentine press suggested that Saracchi might not be returning to Celtic, because the club ‘will not be taking up the option’ to secure his services permanently.

If that’s the case, it’s a crying shame because he made a telling impact in Glasgow, including during Celtic’s final-day title win over Hearts.

Nonetheless, 67 Hail Hail had a look at three left-backs the Hoops could bring in to help out Kieran Tierney next season, if the Saracchi news is true.

Ben Chrisene, Norwich City

After being on Aston Villa’s books as a youngster, Ben Chrisene impressed on loan at Blackburn Rovers before securing a permanent move to Norwich City in 2024.

The recently concluded campaign was undoubtedly one of progress for Chrisene.

Despite some availability issues, the 22-year-old boasts tremendous energy down the left flank. He profiles as the absolute perfect foil for Tierney, allowing the seasoned international to lock down the undisputed starting role while actively mentoring a highly promising understudy.

Victor Kristiansen, Leicester City

This is an interesting one. Victor Kristiansen suffered a season-ending knee injury in November.

But following Leicester City’s relegation, he came out and stated that ‘I didn’t sign to be a League One player’ – it’s pretty clear he will be looking to move on this summer.

If Kristiansen is available and has recovered from his injury, then the champions of Scotland should consider pushing for his talents.

An aggressive player, Kristiansen, at the age of 23, still has plenty of progression in his tank to go to the next level at Celtic.

Tyrell Malacia, free agent

A left-field option and a name that Celtic fans should recognise.

Tyrell Malacia has just left Manchester United as a free agent after spending large parts of the recent campaign on the bench.

Added to that, he was on loan at PSV last season, but Malacia was linked to Celtic before he made that switch to the Netherlands.

It’s a left-field pick, and a very risky one because he only played 15 minutes of football last season and has had injury issues.

You would probably pick the above two over Malacia, but as a free agent, it was worth throwing his name into the Celtic ring again, given that his name was previously mentioned.
