Three players Celtic should consider loaning out before the transfer window closes

Celtic are now approaching the tail end of the transfer window and there is still plenty of business to be done.

January has proved to be a frustrating month for supporters so far. However, Nicolas Kuhn has arrived from Rapid Vienna and could make his first appearance this weekend against Ross County.

Brendan Rodgers has also shown that he is not averse to players leaving Parkhead to seek minutes elsewhere.

Yosuke Ideguchi has departed to join Vissel Kobe permanently. On the other hand, Hyeokkyu Kwon and Adam Montgomery have gone on loan to St Mirren and Motherwell, respectively.

Sending players out on loan can be a fruitful way of determining whether they are good enough to play a part at Celtic in the future. Liam Scales, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie are historical examples of that.

In light of this, 67 Hail Hail take a look at three players Rodgers could look to farm out before the transfer window slams shut.

Gustaf Lagerbielke

This one is based more off probability rather than opinion, given that Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has already clarified that Celtic are open to offers for Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Alternative reports claim that Serie A trio Hellas Verona, Genoa and Lecce could be involved in a three-way tussle to land the £3 million summer signing this month.

Rodgers is said to be content with the notion of the 23-year-old leaving on a temporary basis to help free up wage expenditure.

Lagerbielke has made just nine appearances across all competitions this term, and a loan could be an ideal solution to his future for two key reasons [Transfermarkt].

The Sweden international could either blossom elsewhere and return ready to make an impact in the first-team.

On the flip side, a few solid performances could increase his value ahead of a future permanent sale.

Alexandro Bernabei

Alexandro Bernabei is another Celt who falls under the bracket of being a relatively expensive yet underwhelming addition following his £3.75 million move from Lanus in 2022 [Sky Sports].

Despite being labelled as an “intelligent piece of scouting” from the Scottish champions by journalist Tim Vickery, the 23-year-old has featured just 23 times during his time in Glasgow, registering one goal and three assists [Transfermarkt].

The Argentinian has came on four times as a substitute in 2023/24, amassing a total count of just 71 minutes played on league duty.

Last month, The Scottish Sun claimed clubs in Italy and his homeland were keen to strike a deal for his services this month and Celtic should look to get him off the books by any means necessary.

Mikey Johnston

Last but not least, Mikey Johnston could have his opportunities limited at the club due to the arrival of former Germany Under-20 international Kuhn.

The Republic of Ireland international has come out with some credit since re-emerging at Parkhead over the last few months, notching two goals and two assists apiece for the Hoops in 11 games, per Transfermarkt.

Once Daizen Maeda, Yang Hyun-jun and Marco Tilio, who has already been primed for an exit return from the AFC Asian Cup, the Bhoys will have too many options on the flanks to choose from.

Rodgers has already indicated that Johnston needs to do more to be a Celtic player and it remains to be seen whether his future lies at Parkhead.
