The much-talked-about and much-needed Celtic rebuild can now begin.
Now that word has emerged regarding Martin O’Neill staying in the Celtic Park dugout next season, it’s simply a matter of waiting for the official announcement before the hard work truly gets underway.
There are some players destined to leave Celtic, regardless of who would have been in charge for the 57th Premiership title push.
But you wonder, with this news around O’Neill, whether some Celtic players who were considering their futures will look to stay on, because things are now clear for next season.
67 Hail Hail listed three players who could be in that boat, including captain Callum McGregor.

Callum McGregor
McGregor made some intriguing comments as the previous campaign drew to a close, dropping a few subtle but pointed messages directed squarely at the club’s hierarchy.
This is what McGregor stated in April: “I want to be here. I just want to make sure that the club continue to push, wants to be successful, and wants to drive.”
With O’Neill staying in Glasgow, the hope is that the skipper has finally received the assurances he was looking for.
Simply put, O’Neill needs McGregor to stay on board more than anyone else in the squad.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Signed by O’Neill during the winter transfer window, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain played an important part in Celtic winning the double.
Yes, the 32-year-old faded towards the end and was used from the bench throughout the hectic post-split fixtures.
But you have to wonder if O’Neill will now push the board to hand Oxlade-Chamberlain a new deal, giving the manager the chance to finally work with him across a full pre-season and subsequent campaign.
Would you extend Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract?
Benjamin Nygren
Benjamin Nygren, Celtic’s top scorer during their double-winning campaign, consistently found the back of the net under every manager, demonstrating a natural goalscoring knack that recent forwards have sorely lacked.
While big names like Daizen Maeda, Arne Engels and Reo Hatate might be heading for the exit, it wouldn’t be a surprise if O’Neill absolutely demands that Nygren stays put to guarantee the firepower he so desperately needs.
