Celtic look like they can score at any time under Wilfried Nancy, but unfortunately, it feels like they can concede at any moment.
The make-up of Celtic’s XI, especially the back three, is rather interesting, with Auston Trusty the central centre-back, with Kieran Tierney and Anthony Ralston on either side.
It’s fair to say that Ralston is dividing opinion, and he looks pretty uncomfortable playing such a risky role that requires him to push forward quite a lot, and also defend open spaces.
On Tuesday night, Celtic take on Motherwell in the Premiership, and it’s time Nancy parks his experiment with Ralston aside and hands some minutes to Manchester City loanee, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.

Predicted Celtic starting XI vs Motherwell. Let us know who you start or bench for the big game.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey needs to start ahead of Anthony Ralston
The January transfer window is about to re-open, and if Simpson-Pusey doesn’t feature against Motherwell, then don’t be surprised if he is recalled by Manchester City.
It’s staggering that a player who played under Pep Guardiola last season, played in the Champions League, and was Player of the Season in Premier League 2, is now warming the bench in Glasgow.
Look at the impact Callum Osmand, who had zero senior appearances at Fulham, made during his few games under Martin O’Neill, yet he isn’t considered as valuable or highly-rated as Simpson-Pusey.
Simpson-Pusey is actually used to defending high up the pitch, and playing out from the back, yet somehow he isn’t deemed good enough to be handed a chance ahead of Ralston, who just looks uncomfortable on that right side.
Start him against Motherwell, and let him prove that he is worthy of filling that right-sided role.

Simpson-Pusey’s nightmare at Celtic in numbers
As mentioned above, it has been a nightmare on top of a nightmare, and it will be interesting to see what Nancy does with the player.
So far, Celtic’s new boss hasn’t used him, and you presume that if it remains that way, he won’t be at the club much longer.
But this is how Simpson-Pusey’s nightmare spell at Celtic, so far, looks on paper:
- Games: 1
- Starts: 1
- Total minutes: 64
- Unused substitute: 4
- Not in the matchday squad: 17
