Celtic and Rangers have had plenty of battles over the years.

The Glasgow derby is a bucket list experience for any footballing fan, and one of the most anticipated fixtures of the year.

Hundreds of clashes have taken place to claim bragging rights in the city, as well as keep the title of being the best team in Scotland.

You have to go all the way back to 1888 for the first time the two teams faced each other, and a moment that will be ingrained into Celtic history forever.

Celtic thumped Rangers 6-1 in first competitive meeting

In the first meeting between Celtic and Rangers, it was the Hoops who proved to be the number one side that day with a thumping 6-1 win

Meeting in the Glasgow Cup at Ibrox Park, 4,000 spectators were there to see the Bhoys win convincingly.

To make it more impressive, there were five different goal scorers on the day as Michael Dunbar’s brace was followed up by strikes from Willie Groves, John Coleman, Tom Maley and James Kelly.

It was the second half performance that was most impressive as the Bhoys led 2-1 at the break before really laying down their authority in the second 45.

Celtic’s biggest win against Rangers was a 7-1 victory

Celtic have thumped Rangers a number of times over the years, but their best result of all is a 7-1 win in the Scottish Cup.

Jimmy McGrory’s side were very impressive at Hampden Park as they won in scintillating style to retain the cup in 1957 after beating Partick Thistle the year before.

That game also happened to play a part in the ‘Hampden in the Sun’ song, with the lyrics in that song referencing the cup final win.
