Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be confirmed as a new Celtic player in the next few days.

Martin O’Neill revealed talks had been held with Oxlade-Chamberlain, with the Premier League winner available on a free transfer.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has been training with Arsenal to keep his fitness up and according to Fabrizio Romano, will sign a six-month deal with the Hoops.

Although his career has somewhat tailed off, the 32-year-old has received plenty of plaudits from some well-respected figures in the game, including Jurgen Klopp.

Could Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have an impact like Scott Sinclair did at Celtic?

What Jurgen Klopp said about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

After leaving Arsenal, the former England international moved to Liverpool and transformed his career under Klopp.

At the Reds, he transitioned into a number eight role and came up with some crucial moments in a trophy-laden era for Liverpool.

Klopp has plenty of respect for the midfielder, and even said he would go on holiday with him because of his organisational skills.

He told the Liverpool website in 2023: “It was always a real joy to work with him. I love him.

“I love him. Once I said if I had to choose a player to go on holiday with probably my first choice would be Ox because I’m pretty sure he can organise these things pretty well, he knows the whole world.

“Together with his missus he could probably organise tickets for each event in England, maybe Europe, and it would be absolutely good fun. He is a good talker.”

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can offer something different to Celtic midfield

For too long now, Celtic’s midfield has been too one-dimensional and needs something different to support Callum McGregor.

While Oxlade-Chamberlain was more of an attack-minded midfielder, the 32-year-old could also do a job from a deeper area of the pitch.

His versatility to play out wide or as a wing-back also stands him in good stead, and makes him a great option for the Hoops.

Time will tell if he is a success, but he could be the missing piece.
