Celtic have allowed another young Academy talent to leave the club this summer.

Fans have been left frustrated at watching young players leave the Celtic Academy to chase their dream of first-team football down south.

Watching the likes of Celtic youngsters Ben Doak leave for Liverpool and Rocco Vata move to Watford has become the norm over the last few years.

Of course, there are different circumstances into why these youngsters leave Celtic. When the likes of Liverpool come calling that would be difficult for anyone to turn down. And sometimes, these youngsters may simply not be good enough.

However, one academy talent quietly left Celtic late yesterday afternoon and was immediately thrown into his first-team debut at his new club.

Lenny Agbaire leaves the Celtic Academy to join Rotherham United

Young Lenny Agbaire signed a new Celtic deal just over 12 months ago as he committed his future to the club until the summer of 2026.

But now, the 20-year-old has made his permanent Celtic exit after joining Rotherham United in a three-year deal.

The club posted on X, “𝐀𝐠𝐛𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝!”

20-year-old defender Lenny Agbaire has now finalised paperwork on a three-year contract and joins from Celtic for an undisclosed fee.”

The English League One side clearly rate Agbaire highly and he was immediately thrown in to make his debut in a pre-season fixture against Harrogate Town.

What local media said about ex-Celtic kid Lenny Agbaire’s Rotherham United debut

In a quick-fire turnaround, after signing his three-year deal at 5:45pm, Agbaire was named in Rotherham’s starting XI for the pre-season friendly against Harrogate Town.

The Millers ran out 3-0 winners and it appears that the former Celtic Academy defender impressed the local media.

The Rotherham Advertiser said, “Just 75 minutes after he’d been unveiled as a Rotherham United player, Lenny Agbaire was pulling on a Millers shirt and making his debut.

“Agbaire, the centre-half signing from Celtic, had been on from the start on a rain-lashed Tuesday night in which Rotherham turned on the gas after the break to ease to a third win in three summer outings.

“It wasn’t just a big night for Agbaire. Another new boy, Kian Spence, was playing for the first time. Wearing number 8, he looked mobile and comfortable in possession, and the same could be said of the man with 12 on his back, Agbaire.”

Whilst it didn’t work out at Celtic for Agbaire, 67 Hail Hail wishes the youngster the very best of luck at his new club.
