Ange Postecoglou and Celtic's January transfer plans become clearer
Celtic are reportedly chasing a new right-back and striker as they plan ahead of the January transfer window.
Earlier this year, the Bhoys managed to complete the majority of their business on the first day of 2022, confirming the signings of Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi.
And Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is looking to do some similar transfer dealings in just over a month’s time as he targets more swift business in the window.
In recent weeks, the Celtic boss has been discussing the club’s plans for the up-and-coming window, and he has suggested they will move quickly for signings.
Alongside recruitment chief Mark Lawwell and the rest of the team behind the scenes at Parkhead, Postecoglou has been hard at work looking at which positions may need new additions.
Central defence appears to be one of the areas on the Hoops’ radar, with recent reports suggesting that Vissel Kobe defender Yuki Kobayashi could be on his way to Glasgow.
However, according to a report from the Daily Record, Ange Postecoglou and Celtic have a few more positions in mind that they will be targeting.
The Bhoys will reportedly be looking to land a new right-back, with suggestions that Josip Juranovic could move on after the World Cup following failed contract negotiations.
The former Socceroos boss is also looking to add a new striker to his squad, bringing more firepower to join Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis.
Celtic target two main positions as transfer business prepares to get underway.
After weeks and months of planning, Celtic’s transfer plans look all set to get underway as the recruitment team aim to get deals done early in the window.
With the recent rumours regarding Juranovic’s future at Parkhead, it will come as no surprise to see the club target a new right-back. It is also good to see the Hoops being proactive to the situation.
A new striker was reportedly one of the positions that Ange Postecoglou was looking to add to his squad in the summer, with links to the likes of Ferencvaros frontman Ryan Mmaee.
Although Kyogo and Giakoumakis have continued to fire the goals in this season, it again comes as no surprise to see the Bhoys looking to bring another forward player in.
One of the few problems this side has suffered from, particularly in the Champions League, is the lack of clinical edge in front of goal.
So it seems like a smart move from the Celtic boss to bring another option to fire in the goals, as well as add competition for that one striker spot.
Supporters always love the transfer window and rumours that come with it. In the next few weeks, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see the club linked with moves for a new right back, and striker as the plans finally get underway.
