The trophies have continued to roll in at Celtic following Ange Postecoglou’s departure in 2023.

That’s because the squad and mood in which Postecoglou left the club before he joined Tottenham was pretty strong and fans have a lot to thank him for.

That’s why it’s a shame to see Postecoglou under fire at Tottenham because the Celtic Park faithful are fully aware of what he’s capable of when he turns it up.

One of Ange’s great strengths was the recruitment side of things and bringing in those unknown gems that wowed the crowd.

At Celtic, it was success after success and now Brendan Rodgers, on top of his own fine work, is benefiting from it.

One man who is standing above them all for Celtic’s Treble chasers is Daizen Maeda, as he pushes to become the Player of the Year.

But is there a risk that the champions of Scotland lose their star man in the summer?

Ange Postecoglou told he is ‘crying out’ for a player like Celtic’s Daizen Maeda at Tottenham

There is no stopping Maeda right now because the goals are coming in for fun, including at the weekend when he netted number 27 for the campaign.

Ross McCormack feels that it is now inevitable that there will be ‘big offers’ for the 27-year-old when the summer transfer window re-opens, as he told Open Goal.

The former striker also stated that someone like Postecoglou at Tottenham is ‘crying out’ for a player of Maeda’s qualities.

“I think, yes, there will be big offers,” stated McCormack on Maeda interest this summer. “Will they take it? I am not sure they can.

“There must be a reason. Spurs were crying out for a striker. Ange has worked with him. Ange has seen him for years and years, when he was over in Japan, when he was classed as, even back then, an even better striker than Kyogo.

“There must be a reason why these big teams haven’t already come for him.”

Maeda’s season in numbers

Up until the New Year, Maeda was having a steady season and showing strong form, but nothing that was Player of the Year worthy.

But, in 2025, he has taken this to a much higher level and there is only one man who is going to walk away with all those individual prizes.

The issue Celtic have is that Maeda’s form in Europe might have pushed certain teams to now put money on the table for him.

Ideally, everyone at Celtic would turn down any offers, but given the gulf in finances between the Premier League and Scotland’s top-tier, then sometimes it leaves you with no choice.
