Celtic have officially announced the signing of Auston Trusty from Sheffield United.

The United States international defender is reported to have joined for a fee of around £6m, signing up on a five-year deal until the summer of 2029.

Trusty’s move has been in the offing all day after Blades boss Chris Wilder confirmed he was in Glasgow putting the finishing touches to the transfer.

However, with the possibility of visa issues, it’s excellent to see Celtic get this completed before the deadline.

Auston Trusty on his big Celtic move

The centre-back told the club’s website after inking his contract: “I feel ecstatic. It’s just such an historic and amazing club, and it’s a club I’ve known about since I was a little kid.

“Growing up in Philadelphia, football wasn’t such a popular sport but I knew Celtic, I knew who Celtic were. It’s a dream come true to join this club and such a massive organisation.

“The manager told me to be the best that I can be, that’s off the pitch, as a teammate and everything on the pitch.

“He said that he believes in me and believes in everything I can do, it’s up to me and he’ll provide me with the environment where I can thrive.

“I’m looking forward to meeting all the guys as well. From what I’ve heard it’s a great environment around the club too so I’m looking forward to it.”

Brendan Rodgers puts defensive trust into core four

Gustaf Lagerbielke and Yuki Kobayashi both left the club earlier this week so it was well-known that Celtic needed another defensive option in the building.

Trusty looks to now be one of Brendan Rodgers’ prime picks in the position, initially competing with Liam Scales for a starting spot alongside national teammate Cameron Carter-Vickers.

With Stephen Welsh also in reserve, the manager has four options he likes in the position and that should provide the depth required throughout the season.

However, there’s little room for Maik Nawrocki who has struggled with injuries since arriving in Glasgow last summer. Reports have indicated he could be set for an exit but nothing has yet transpired at the time of publishing.
