Championship boss says Celtic transfer move to be ‘announced pretty quickly’

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is confident his side will be adequately strengthened by the close of play in the transfer window tonight.

The Irishman has said that several pursuits are ongoing in the background, and although he is reticent to comment further, he believes his side will be in a ‘good place’ by this evening.

Among the likely candidates to come in is Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty. The USA international has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract to join Celtic for £6 million.

There is red tape that will need to be cleared before he is officially announced in order to make sure his visa is correctly formatted.

Nevertheless, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has given an update on his situation, and it appears it is only a matter of time before white smoke arises from Celtic Park.

Chris Wilder on Auston Trusty’s move to Celtic

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sheffield United’s home clash against Watford, Wilder has admitted he expects Trusty’s move to Celtic to be formalised imminently.

He stated [Sheffield Star]: “I believe Trusty’s (undergoing a) medical and final bits to Celtic. I believe the Trusty one was last night going in this morning so that’ll be announced pretty quickly.”

Later, Wilder added: “Auston was another one. We picked the first team of the season (against Preston) and he wasn’t in it. There was interest from Celtic and he wanted to explore it.”

The Blades coach went on to confirm he already has adequate depth within the building at Bramall Lane to contend with the demands of their forthcoming schedule.

Auston Trusty closer to Celtic than ever

Crucially, it looks like Trusty will be announced as a Celtic player by the close of play. Hopefully, we can see that in the coming hours, but the club may wait to present him tonight alongside other arrivals.

Now, it is over to the 26-year-old to nail down a first-team berth alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers. Liam Scales will provide stiff competition, so watching them battle it out for time on the pitch will be exciting.

Maik Nawrocki could leave on loan by the deadline, which would mean Rodgers has the three mentioned alongside Stephen Welsh to choose from in central defence.

Providing a nice balance and a core four to work with, the Irishman will have a settled backline in situ to handle challenges ahead.
