Club Brugge are said to be interested in young Celtic prospect, Rocco Vata, according to a report by the Daily Record.

The report claims that the Belgian side has been ‘watching’ Vata’s situation closely and has been scouting the youngster for over a year.

67 Hai Hail discussed just under two weeks ago how Italian side, Torino are also interested in Vata but Ronny Deila’s Brugge is looking to compete against the Serie A side for his signature.

But Deila may have to get in line as there are also clubs in England said to be interested in the Republic of Ireland u19 international winger.

Vata has just entered the final year of his contract and with no hint of an extension being offered, clubs will be sniffing around the highly-rated teenager. Vata also changed his agent at the end of last month.

The 18-year-old has already appeared for the Celtic first team on four occasions. He made his debut in the 4-0 thrashing of Hibernian in December of last year when he was brought on for the finals six minutes of the capital clash.

Since then he has made appearances against Ross County, Kilmarnock and Motherwell. Vata is yet to make an appearance for the Hoops this season but he was heavily involved in Brendan Rodgers’ pre-season preparations this summer.

Celtic, and the fans, will be keen to see Vata stick around and develop at the club for the foreseeable future. As will Hoops boss, Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic gaffer singled out Vata for some praise after he impressed Rodgers in Portugal but even then Rodgers did offer a challenge to the youngster when he said, “He’s strong, quick, he wants to score goals. There is lots of development he needs if he’s willing to do that.”

Fingers crossed that he is and that a contract offer is on the way. If not, Celtic could lose him for a compensation fee. But not only that, it would be disappointing to lose another top young talent after young Ben Doak‘s departure to Liverpool in April of last year.
