Celtic’s recent link to Mathias Kvistgaarden seems to suggest that the club are in the market to add a new striker to the ranks.
67 Hail Hail told this morning how the young striker was given a glowing recommendation by Danish football expert, Toke Theilade.
With the recent injury to Hyeongyu Oh leaving just Kyogo Furuhashi as the main man up top at the moment, adding an extra body to that department seems logical when you consider the amount of football coming up for the Hoops in the next few weeks.
But it seems that may not be the case after all. Rodgers was speaking to the press yesterday regarding the striking situation at Celtic and it seems that his comments could cast doubt on today’s rumour that Kvistgaarden is a target for the club after all.
Rodgers said [Daily Mail], “You have to be careful I think, because you can have too many. I’d seen a lot of Daizen [Maeda] and really liked the look of him as a striker.
‘There is a reason he plays as a central striker for Japan, and over the course of pre-season he was excellent. Obviously, we’ve got Oh as well and Kyogo, but there are only so many you can keep happy. Normally, strikers want to play.

‘So, when Oh is fit, and we’ve got Kyogo and then Daizen as a possibility, there’s enough numbers there.”
Although these comments don’t 100% rule out the possibility of adding another striker, they do give an indication of where the manager sees his team at the moment.
However, as we have already seen this season, injury can put to bed the best-laid plans and force the manager to look at other options.
But it does look like Rodgers sees Kyogo, Oh and Maeda as his preferred three strikers. When all three are fit and available then it seems the Celtic manager may be happy to go into the new season with what he has at his disposal.
