It’s been so bad for Celtic that many can’t wait for the summer transfer window to slam shut.
That way, Celtic can concentrate on domestic matters, trying to win title number 56, and make a name for themselves in the Europa League.
But it still shouldn’t hide the mess that has been made of the 2025 summer transfer window, including missing out on Champions League football.
Going back to the winter, when Kyogo Furuhashi left to join Rennes, a striker was needed, and Brendan Rodgers has been pretty vocal about it.
Yet fast forward to the present, Adam Idah has joined Swansea City, and hopes of bringing Kasper Dolberg to Glasgow have now faded away.

Celtic fans react to the latest news on Kasper Dolberg on transfer deadline day
Before the start of transfer deadline day, many of the Celtic supporters were hoping that they would sign Dolberg from Anderlecht.
But in the final hours of the transfer window, his former club Ajax have knocked for his services, and it seems as though Dolberg will be returning to the Netherlands.
It’s another big blow for Celtic, and it’s fair to say that the supporters are fuming on social media, with many strong views being expressed, and rightfully so.
@Bazzinho9 used one word to sum up the whole situation: ‘Embarrassing.’
The Celtic fans are clearly unhappy, as @GbhoyDownUnder added: ‘What a joke we are.’
@conorrr28 is laughing it off: ‘😂😂😂😂 We are shambles.’
@jakebrown_1994 raised a few questions as Dolberg heads to Ajax: ‘Am I right in saying we made initial contact almost a month ago? What was the reason we couldn’t get a deal done then? Or did we just not try because “we famously do our deals towards the end of the window”?’
@indy_kenny brought up Rodgers’ comments on Idah: ‘Didn’t Brendan say Idah was going NOWHERE until a replacement was in the door?’
@nivrag91 thinks he knows who Celtic’s next striker will be: ‘Welcome to Celtic, Kieron Bowie.’
@Max____67 thinks Celtic have already been ‘scrambling’: ‘As if Celtic haven’t been scrambling, Anthony.’
@G_Murphy7 isn’t a happy Celtic fan: ‘At this rate it wouldn’t surprise me if we’ve already sold Idah and end up immediately buying him back for £20 million just to get someone in the door!’
@BattlefieldBhoy thinks nothing will change at Celtic following the Dolberg news: ‘‘Could leave Celtic scrambling’ We’ve been scrambling for the last 2 months. Nothing’s changed, and nor will it. We’ll get nobody today. Only club in the world that takes forever to get a deal over the line.’
@CFCMark101 told the Celtic fans to ‘boycott’ the Europa League: ‘Said it a few days ago, Celtic will not sign anyone else in this window. Absolute shambles. I just hope supporters boycott the Europa League.’
@GMcQ29 had a rant: ‘I’m out…fed up with this nonsense now…honestly thought we might have pulled a few big deals off today, but as it stands it seems downsizing is more on the agenda than evolving. Shameful behaviour from the club.’
Celtic’s striker options if a fresh face isn’t signed on transfer deadline day
When Idah was still in the building, there was the suggestion that Celtic needed at least one number nine, and now that he is gone, it makes matters worse.
Surely, it means somebody will come in, because if that doesn’t happen, then it leaves Rodgers pretty short up top.
Here are the options who can play up top if nobody signs on transfer deadline day:
- Daizen Maeda
- Shin Yamada
- Benjamin Nygren
- Johnny Kenny
