Celtic have conceded defeat in their quest to sign a striker.

Brendan Rodgers has wanted two strikers in before the deadline and will desperately need that to happen after Adam Idah completed his move to Swansea City.

A loan for Sekou Mara and a possible deal for Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana have also been mentioned.

The number one target has been Kasper Dolberg in recent days, but the latest news isn’t good for Celtic fans.

Ajax close in on Kasper Dolberg transfer

Anthony Joseph has been at the centre of all of the Hoops’ transfer deadline day activities so far and has delivered the latest blow in the window.

In his latest report he confirmed that Ajax were leading the race for Dolberg and that Celtic have ‘accepted defeat’ in their quest to sign the Danish forward.

Ajax hijacked Celtic’s move for the 27-year-old and look set to land him for a fee of £10m, with the Hoops moving on to other targets.

Where do Celtic go from here?

There isn’t long to go in the window and time is running out for Celtic to pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Rodgers has continuously said throughout the window that he needs more attackers in and while Sebastian Tounekti is flying to Glasgow to complete a £5.2m deal, that doesn’t solve the issue of the striker problem.

Daizen Maeda struggled up top against Rangers, and the other options are still inexperienced and raw. Let’s see if the Bhoys can surprise everyone by 11pm.
