Callum McGregor has sparked more talk of a Celtic exit by switching to the same agency group as Brendan Rodgers.

Despite being aged 33 and in the middle of a contract which still has two years, McGregor has switched to Unique Sports Group.

Adam Idah, whose initial loan to Celtic was fully orchestrated by Rodgers in 2024, is also a client of the agency.

It’s the latest of a few clues we have been drip-fed over recent months that the Parkhead captain could be considering an exit.

For much of the recent past, the idea of McGregor leaving seemed inconceivable, and many expected him to remain a one-club man.

However, the narrative has slowly started to change over the last six months.

It was first reported that Rodgers was targeting a move for McGregor in January, a few weeks after the Irishman took the reins at Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia.

McGregor reaffirmed his commitment to Celtic after the reports emerged, but seemed to change his tune a few months later.

The Hoops captain said in April: I want to be at Celtic. So, as long as the club want me here and as long as the club’s ambition matches my own, in terms of playing at the highest level.

“I don’t want to sit here and be a Celtic captain who’s not winning anything. And I’ve been honest with everyone in that conversation.

“The people inside the club know it. If we’re not going to be the best version of Celtic then I don’t want to be the guy who’s not winning any trophies. That’s not me and not who I am.”

Since then, reports in the Middle East have said that Rodgers wants to sign an experienced midfielder this summer, and McGregor certainly fits the bill.

Which key Celtic players could leave this summer?

A major rebuild beckons for Celtic this summer, with a number of key players looking likely to leave.

Daizen Maeda says he plans to play in the Premier League as he enters the final year of his contract at Celtic Park.

Also planning to leave is Arne Engels, who is of interest to a heap of European clubs. The midfielder attracted significant interest in January, but stayed put.

Benjamin Nygren has various suitors, but may want to kick on after just one season in Glasgow. Reo Hatate and McGregor have also been linked away.
