Celtic and Crystal Palace fans offer differing views over transfer rumour involving attacking sensation

Both Celtic and Crystal Palace still have a lot to play for as the season is edging closer to its conclusion.

Celtic are hoping to win the Scottish Cup, so they can secure another Treble under Brendan Rodgers, whilst Palace are also hoping for domestic glory as they face Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final at the end of April.

That could provide a springboard for the teams as they head into what is expected to be another action-packed and busy summer transfer window.

Celtic should be busy, especially with Rodgers unhappy with some performances of late, and the need to qualify for next season’s Champions League main phase.

Pound for pound, a club the size of Celtic would blow Palace out of the water, but the London club have the backdrop of the Premier League money to overpower Scotland’s most successful club.

But come the summer, could the Hoops take a highly-rated talent from the ranks of Selhurst Park?

Celtic and Crystal Palace fans react to transfer rumour involving Jesse Derry

Palace have one of the top academies in England, but they could be set to lose out to one of their top talents, after he supposedly rejected a new contract.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed on social media that Celtic, alongside rivals Rangers, are looking to sign young attacking sensation Jesse Derry.

The 17-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer, as the youth international has ‘turned down a pro deal’, as O’Rourke added.

Celtic and Palace supporters shared their thoughts on the matter, with both sets of fans offering differing views on the rumour.

@PaulC_1994 suggested the role Derry could play: ‘I gather this would be one for the b team given his age ?’

@Steveno88139952 highlighted how Palace could suffer what Celtic have suffered in the past: ‘If he’s any good you need to try, we’ve lost one too many under the same circumstances’.

But this Palace fan held a different view, as @GyikaCPFC added: ‘That’s him staying in England then’.

A brutal take from this Palace fan: ‘Congrats my man you will be nowhere in 5 years’.

@ThePalaceWay backed him to smash it: ‘He’d probably tear up that league tbh.’

@ForbesPete83918 backed the signing: ‘Get the boy an produce him can’t let talent go to waste or sit on the bench’.

@Green_Hoops67 spoke the truth: ‘Celtic and Rangers don’t compete for players. He is either good enough for Celtic and if not he goes to Rangers’.

Another truth bomb: ‘If he wants a good career he’ll go to Celtic, if he wants to end his career he’ll go to Rangers.’

@3kxv_ joked: ‘Look, he might be a player but a don’t want anyone rocking a hair band at Celtic’.

Derry’s stats for Palace this season

Derry has featured for Palace’s under-18 and under-21 sides, including representing England’s younger age groups, as he currently plays for the under-19s.

A versatile player, he has been used in various roles at youth level, from centre-forward to attacking midfield.

And this is how his season has looked in numbers, as well as the positions he has played, according to Transfermarkt.
