Celtic aren’t leading the race to sign Armando Gonzalez, despite reports claiming that he had been scouted.

Gonzalez is one of Mexico’s biggest prospects and is attracting attention in the European market.

Mexico’s national team coach Javier Aguirre has already tipped Gonzalez to head to Europe but, right now, that doesn’t seem to be at Celtic Park.

The 2026 transfer window is still months away, but what is the number one position Celtic need to improve this summer?📝

Feyenoord have scouted Armando Gonzalez

While some reports have said that ‘La Hormiga’ has been watched by the Hoops, Barcelona and West Ham United, Mexican journalists have suggested otherwise.

TUDN reporter Erick Lopez has said that Eredivisie side Feyenoord are the only team to have come and watched the 22-year-old play for Chivas.

He added that no official contact has been made about any possible transfer.

Last summer he rejected a big-money move to CSKA Moscow so that he could focus on securing his place in Mexico’s World Cup squad this summer.

Armando Gonzalez would be an obvious upgrade for Celtic

Goals have been a huge problem for Celtic this season and, despite bringing two in across the winter window, a striker is still needed.

Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu have a combined total of two goals since their move, while the Hoops’ only consistent goalscorer is playing in midfield.

Only Benjamin Nygren (18) has scored more goals than Gonzalez (17) and he is the only Celtic player to hit double figures in all competitions.

How many goals would Armando Gonzalez score in this current Celtic side? 🔥

Daizen Maeda has nine while Hyunjun Yang and Johnny Kenny are tied on six and then Arne Engels has five.

It doesn’t take much to figure that those goals would make a huge difference if those goals were at Celtic, then the table would look a lot kinder to the Hoops.
