Celtic have been blown out of the water by a €15 million offer from Eintracht Frankfurt for Nobel Mendy.
It was reported earlier this week that Celtic were vying for Mendy along with Frankfurt and Stuttgart.
This was certainly an indication that the club were aiming high, given the budget of their two competitors.
The left-footer’s loan move from Real Betis to Rayo Vallecano has just been made permanent for £3 million, but he is expected to move on instantly.
🤔 Do Celtic need to sign a centre-back this summer?
Eintracht Frankfurt make €15 million offer for Nobel Mendy
According to Matteo Moretto of MARCA – who initially reported Celtic’s interest- the Bundesliga side have now sent a €15 million offer for the defender.
It has been rejected by Rayo.

Mendy started most of their La Liga matches last season, but didn’t start a single match in their run to the Conference League final.
He made the loan move to the Madrid club last year after coming extremely close to a £3.5 million move to Russell Martin’s Rangers.
Mendy skipped training with Betis to travel for his Ibrox medical, but the deal collapsed after issues were flagged. Having previously rejected Rayo, he then returned to the table and signed for them on loan with an option to buy.
The exact nature of the medical problems aren’t clear, but the 21-year-old made it through the entirety of last season injury-free.
Several central defenders are being linked with the Hoops this summer, primarily Poland international Oskar Wojcik.
The names of Zinedin Smajlovic, Michael Parker and Scott McKenna have also done the rounds.

Have Celtic made the right call?
Cracovica boss has opened door to sale of Oskar Wojcik
Cracovia manager Murat Colak recently said of Wojcik, via Polish outlet Weszlo: “Wojcik is a fantastic player for us, and we support him very much.
“I won’t deny that there’s a lot of interest in him. He’s a player with enormous potential.
“He’s in his prime. We’ve had some very good offers for him since the winter.
“We want to be fair to him. If a great offer comes in, one that’s good for both the club and Oskar, we’ll definitely consider it.”
