Dinko Horkas is reportedly moving closer to an exit from Las Palmas, with Celtic falling behind in the race.

Reports of Celtic’s interest in Horkas appeared at the beginning of this month, with Martin O’Neill targeting a goalkeeper.

The Croatian stopper is expected to leave the Gran Canaria club following their failed bid for promotion back to La Liga.

Celtic had been named frontrunners for Horkas last week, but an unnamed other club appear to have stolen a march.

‘No movement’ from Celtic as Dinko Horkas nears Las Palmas exit

CeltsAreHere report that the club close to an agreement to sign Horkas is not Celtic, despite the club showing interest in the 27-year-old.

Horkas has been linked with clubs throughout Europe, including in England and Spain.

He is a product of the famed academy at Dinamo Zagreb, but was never the first-choice goalkeeper in the Croatian capital. Instead, he played in Bulgaria before hitting his stride in Spain.

It has previously been reported that Hull City, Olympiacos and Sevilla are all also in the race for the Croatian goalkeeper.

Both Olympiacos and Sevilla are likely to offer a higher salary than Celtic likely would.

The Greek side are expected to lose first-choice stopper Konstantinos Tzolakis this summer, whilst Sevilla are in need of two goalkeepers after the exits of Orjan Nyland and Odysseas Vlachodimos.

He is valued at £6-8 million, though club president Miguel Angel Ramirez says that clubs interested in the goalkeeper have got off to a ‘bad start’ in negotiations.

That’s because, he claims, that clubs have been ‘tapping up’ the player and negotiating with him individually before making an approach to the second tier side.

Martin O’Neill has confirmed that Celtic are targeting a goalkeeper

Speaking to the media this week, O’Neill said: “We’re definitely looking for another goalkeeper.

“Whether it be a youngish fellow, same age as Sinisalo, or somebody a bit older, we’re definitely looking at it.

“Because we’ve only got Sinisalo here at this minute and we’ve got Ross [Doohan].”

Sinisalo deputised last season in the absence of Schmeichel, and it remains to be seen if he will continue to receive minutes this season.
