The Liel Abada story at Celtic edges closer to its conclusion this afternoon as the Israeli winger completes his medical ahead of a £10m move to MLS side Charlotte FC.
We told on Sunday how Abada was in talks with the US side as he looks to leave Parkhead following personal off-field issues surrounding his homeland.
New details emerged on the deal yesterday as Celtic looked to be picking up £8m for the 22-year-old with the fee possibly rising to £11m with add-ons.
And it seems now, that Abada is one step closer to his Parkhead exit as the Celtic winger completes his medical ahead of the move. That’s according to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph this afternoon.
In a post on social media channel X, Joesph said, “UPDATE: Celtic winger Liel Abada has completed a medical ahead of his proposed £10m move to Charlotte FC. (w/@SkySportsLyall)”
The move brings an end to months of constant speculation surrounding the treble-winning winger as Abada looks to kick-start his career after returning from a serious injury in December last year.
Abada’s well-publicised off-field issues have contributed to the young winger finding himself out of the team with Brendan Rodgers saying he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to play any part in Celtic’s recent run of fixtures.
Whatever way you look it, this is a blow to Rodgers. Abada was central to Celtic’s successes under Ange Postecoglou and it seemed that, looking at his performances in the pre-season tour of Japan, the 22-year-old was going to kick on under Rodgers.
An injury sustained on international duty put paid to that as Abada found himself on the treatment table for four months.
Now fully fit, the Israeli winger is US-bound and will be hoping that he can pick up where he left off with Celtic last season to help revive his stalling career.
