The surprising fee Celtic could get for Liel Abada with medical on the cards

Celtic look set to offload Liel Abada in a move that could net the club up to £10m.

The Israeli winger has been unsettled at the club and has struggled to nail down a starting place due to personal issues.

We told just a couple of weeks ago that there were still transfer options open to Abada and it looks like he is set to take one of those up.

It seems, now, that a move to Charlotte in the MLS could be on after a report from Football Scotland shares that talks between the winger and the US side have been ongoing since last week.

The report states, “Liel Abada is holding talks with Charlotte in MLS over a Celtic transfer exit.

“Football Scotland understands the winger, 22, has been in conversations with the US outfit over a switch since the end of last week and the fee could come close to around £10m for the Israeli.”

A medical is said to be scheduled as early as this week and Celtic may not have expected to have received such a high fee for the player considering his recent well-publicised problems at the club.

Abada has struggled to retain a place in the team after an injury picked up on international duty kept the winger out for a few months at the beginning of the season.

However, off-field issues have unsettled the 22-year-old player and Abada hasn’t featured since Celtic’s 2-1 win over Hibernian at Easter Road last month.

Brendan Rodgers recently commented on the immediate future of Abada and whilst the Celtic manager confirmed at the end of last month that his situation hadn’t changed, it now looks like he could be on his way out of Celtic sooner rather than later.

Liel Abada at Celtic

Abada has had a really successful time at Celtic since Ange Postecoglou brought him to the club back in 2021.

In 112 appearances in the green and white hoops, Abada has scored 29 goals and created 22 assists whilst picking up five trophies which included a historic treble last season. [Transfermarkt]

Of his goals, some of Abada’s most memorable are the scoring in the Scottish Cup Final last season and his last-minute winner against Dundee United that set up a top-of-the-table clash against Rangers the following week.

Indeed, Abada also scored in that game in the 3-0 Glasgow Derby win that sent Celtic to the top of the league.

If the youngster does seal his move this week, then he will go with the best wishes of the Celtic fans who all let him know exactly what they thought of him when he returned from injury this season when he received a rousing reception after appearing as a sub in the 2-1 win over Rangers.
