It’s going to be interesting to see what road Celtic and Brendan Rodgers go down when the summer transfer window re-opens.
One man, who will be looking for a new club, is Leicester City’s veteran striker, Jamie Vardy, who worked with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers during his time at the King Power Stadium.
In 2012, Vardy joined the Foxes from Fleetwood Town for just £1 million, and then went on to play a huge part in one of the greatest stories in English football history.
From helping Leicester earn promotion back to the promised land, maintain their status, and then become champions of England in 2016.
It didn’t stop there because, after Rodgers’ infamous call to leave Celtic for Leicester in 2019, he won the FA Cup in 2021 by beating Chelsea in the final at Wembley.
But, following Leicester’s relegation to the Championship, Vardy has announced that he will leave the Midlands club, and it has got many in Celtic fans talking.

Celtic fans debate signing Jamie Vardy ahead of Leicester City exit
Celtic don’t only need a striker, but Rodgers has stated for a while now that he wants three centre-forwards competing on all fronts.
Adam Idah is the bona fide forward at the club, after Kyogo Furuhashi left in January, whilst Daizen Maeda has gone to another level after being used in that role more regularly.
It’s fair to say that some Celtic fans on social media would be open to Vardy reuniting with his former boss, but others simply are not having it.
@King7Henrik was clear: ‘Happy to put my head on the chopping block here… On a free for a year or so? I’d happily take’.
@TonyMcAtamney was in the same boat: ‘I’d have Jamie Vardy at Celtic all day long…’.
@salamicelt noted Vardy’s age: ‘He’s 38 😂. only idiots want this.’
@sarasimpson3006 was another who doesn’t want to see Vardy sign: ‘Good god, no thanks’.
@johns19678 added: ‘Vardy to Celtic 👀’
@nathangreennn was having none of it: ‘Why do I keep seeing Celtic fans wanting Jamie Vardy? 😂 He is 39 next season and he is so far past it. Could you imagine us trying to press with him up top. Used to be brilliant, absolutely no thanks now’.
@GlasgowCetlic wants Vardy in: ‘Join Brendan Rodger’s at Celtic Vardy?’
@notnanagrom added: ‘Welcome to Celtic. JAMIE VARDY’.
@_CM_67_ asked a question: ‘Do you fancy it?’
@Stevie67_ thinks Celtic should be, at least, taking a look: ‘Celtic should be 110% asking the question here’
@PaddyBhoy1965 is another who doesn’t want to see Vardy: ‘He will be 39 in January. Well past his best’.
@ryannnjoseph says Celtic have better: ‘Idah is better’.
@CSC_BOBO issued a two-word response: ‘No chance’.
Vardy’s Premier League record and record under Brendan Rodgers
To go from non-league football to, not only scoring over 100 goals in England’s top-flight, but winning the title itself, the FA Cup, and playing for your country on 27 occasions, is something!
It has been some career from Vardy, but he still wants to add to his numbers, as his Premier League record stands pretty healthy.
| Competition | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premier League | 338 | 143 | 48 |
For Vardy, it ended on a sour note under Rodgers because he left months before their previous relegation, and since then, they have gone down again and not been able to recover.
But, in all competitions, Vardy still scored a fair number of goals under Rodgers.
| Vardy’s games under Rodgers | Goals | Assists | Minutes played |
| 157 | 70 | 25 | 11,640 |
