It has been an interesting few weeks at Celtic.
For all intents and purposes, Marcelo Saracchi was going to return to Celtic, but a deal couldn’t be agreed with the Boca Juniors defender.
To nobody’s surprise, Saracchi not returning has caused a bit of a stir amongst the fanbase, with many unhappy that the left-back won’t return.
Celtic now need a back-up for Kieran Tierney, as 67 Hail Hail asked our TalkingPoints users who they think is to blame for this Saracchi mess.
🏴 Would you take James Penrice at Celtic? 👇️

Celtic fans in agreement after news emerges that Marcelo Saracchi won’t return
All of you are in agreement. You feel that the blame lies in the hands of the Celtic board and those running the club.
That shouldn’t be a surprise because the protests against the Celtic board have grown and grown during the past 12 months.
Even though Celtic won the domestic double last term, one of our TalkingPoints users, Callum_Boyle, feels that this has ‘set us back further.’
You even have a section of the Celtic Park fanbase firing shots at O’Neill.
Jas1160 stated how he is getting ‘angrier’ the more he listens to O’Neill speak, and how he is being a ‘shield’ for the board.
- Callum_Boyle: ‘Everyone, including M’ON unfortunately. The board dragged their heels with a new manager, aren’t spending, O’Neill defends them to high heaven and didn’t make enough of a push to keep Saracchi, clearly. Winning the league has set us back further, if anything.’
- Jas1160: ‘The more I hear from MON the angrier he makes me feel, allowing himself to be a shield for the board charlatans should make him ashamed.’
What’s also a shame with this Saracchi news is that it was only going to take ‘£1.5 million’ for Celtic to sign the left-back.
But once again, it’s ‘penny pinching’ for the board at its finest, as our TalkingPoints users continued to note.
- Fenian.Pinguin: ‘Penny pinching.’
- Steviec: ‘The bean counters strike again. An excellent player who could have been bought for £1.5 million and wanted to be here. Yet they make a complete balls-up of it. Typical Celtic Board.’
- DrewDeacons: ‘The Board & MON getting walked over & told what to do, it’s getting absolutely ridiculous now.’
- Annewell1888: ‘I just wish they would put decent offers in for the targets they have got instead of penny pinching and trying with low balls offers that they know are going to get knocked back. Sick of us losing out on targets because of this. When Ange was manager, he got players in fast, then the biscuit tin lid slammed shut, and he decided to go.’
What doesn’t help Celtic is the fact that Saracchi isn’t the only one who won’t return, because Kelechi Iheanacho is in that same boat.
IanFitzpatrick873 wants O’Neill to tell Celtic’s side of the story, and why these players weren’t signed, while Brendya1963 pointed towards how it’s all wages related ‘apparently.’
- IanFitzpatrick873: ‘Saracchi is a no-brainer..he should be a Celtic player …i know mon says there’s two sides to a story ..so Martin..tell us your side.’
- KevinBhoys1888: ‘The board, of course!’
- Brendya1963: ‘The wage demand was too high for both him and Iheanacho, apparently 👀’
- Martin.Crawford: ‘Dermot Desmond’s Celtic model.’
- Hunt878: ‘Get the players the manager wants, and give him a chance to progress in the Champions League. If he does, you get your money back. HH.’
