Celtic hot on trail of Norwegian winger as Brendan Rodgers steps up January reinforcement search

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will be priming himself for an exciting January transfer window that could see movement in both directions at Parkhead.

The Bhoys are in negotiations to sell Alexandro Bernabei to loan club Internacional for a fee that could topple the outlet they shelled out for him in 2022.

Continuing the theme of outgoings, Stephen Welsh, Maik Nawrocki and Luis Palma could leave Celtic in January, which could create space for arrivals as they look to further their prospects domestically and on the continent.

Yesterday, reports surfaced claiming Royal Antwerp winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha is a Celtic target once again after he completed his return from a muscle injury.

To the surprise of many, the reigning Scottish Premiership champions didn’t act to bring in a winger during the summer, but the area does look likely to be strengthened by Brendan Rodgers.

With the search for reinforcements on, Celtic have now turned their attention to the Eliteserien in their hunt for another wide option.

Celtic closely monitor Sarpsborg winger Sondre Ørjasæter

According to Nettavisen, Sarpsborg winger Sondre Ørjasæter is attracting interest from Celtic and is viewed as an ‘attractive’ option heading into the January transfer window.

The Bhoys and RB Salzburg are closely monitoring the 21-year-old, who registered six goals and seven assists in 32 appearances during the Norwegian season.

His current club aren’t keen to sell him at this moment in time, but it remains to be seen if either side can tempt him away from the Eliteserien to embark on a new challenge.

Former Celtic man Stefan Johansen is also on the books of Sarpsborg and is considering whether to terminate his contract or prolong his stay in Østfold county.

Sondre Ørjasæter joins the Celtic wishlist

Enjoying an excellent 2024 campaign, stat-trackers Fotmob show Ørjasæter created 52 chances, completed 67 dribbles and took on 56 shots, with 30 reaching the target.

Nobody needs any introduction to Celtic’s success with Scandinavian players in the past, but it would be intriguing to see if he would be brought in as a squad player or earmarked for an even more prominent role.

Predominantly left-sided, Ørjasæter would have to fight it out with Daizen Maeda and other positional rivals for a place. Nevertheless, competition between talented specialists usually makes Celtic stronger.
