Celtic are reportedly ramping up their interest in Benjamin Tahirovic.

Tahirovic is a prime target for Celtic this summer, with a number of midfielders expected to depart during the transfer window.

The Brondby midfielder is 6 ft 3 in tall and could replace Arne Engels on paper. He will compete at this summer’s World Cup with Bosnia.

Top Italian transfer expert Gianluca DiMarzio has provided an update on Celtic’s interest, revealing that contact has been made.

“They like him a lot, but of course I cannot guarantee that they will finish the deal with him and Brondby.

“But for sure, they already contacted the club to ask for information on this player, like the price and the opportunity to get him.

“Personally, I think he can be a very good player for Celtic. I remember him from AS Roma and he has the right abilities, but on a personal level and football wise, but we will have to see.

“All I can say is that they want him and they are trying to get him.”

It certainly sounds like the deal is far from completion, and there could be complications if Tahirovic has an impressive tournament in North America.

Bosnia will compete in Group B with Canada, Switzerland and Qatar. Brondby paid £2.4 million to sign him from Ajax.

Celtic have been linked with a host of midfielders in recent weeks, with a seismic rebuild awaiting them this summer.

Soufiane El-Faouzi is reportedly open to joining the Hoops, whilst Elijah Just has addressed interest from Celtic. Alfie Devine looks to have gotten away.

Midfielders expected to leave Celtic this summer

After serious interest in January, Arne Engels is now expected to leave Celtic, with a host of European clubs chasing the 22-year-old.

Reo Hatate was left out of the matchday squad for the final two games of the season, with the writing seemingly on the wall regarding his future. Paulo Bernardo is also completely out of favour.

A stellar debut season by Benjamin Nygren is also generating interest, and a rapid exit hasn’t been ruled out for the Hoops’ top scorer.

Even captain Callum McGregor hasn’t ruled out an exit, whilst Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s contract is now up.
