Both Celtic and Kyogo Furuhashi have suffered since going their separate ways in January 2025.
At the time, many questioned why Celtic, who were heading to the play-offs of the Champions League and pushing for a Treble, were selling such a key asset.
But fast forward to the present, Celtic have struggled for goals, and Kyogo’s career has turned into a nightmare.
The Japan star’s spell at Rennes lasted only six months before he joined Birmingham City in the summer, and now he is out for the season with a shoulder injury, as Peter Grant saw this coming a mile off.
“If you are at games, as I am,” said Grant. “You see that defenders know that. They were pulling his shoulder. So what’s he out with now? His shoulder operation. He won’t play again this season.”
Is Kyogo the best striker Celtic have had since Henrik Larsson?

Peter Grant states Celtic were right to sell Kyogo Furuhashi
For a man who hit nearly 100 goals in the famous green and white colours, Kyogo can’t even hit the target anymore, never mind find the back of the net.
Since leaving Glasgow, the Japan star has netted just three times, and you wonder how much his shoulder played a part in that because it seems to have been a long-term issue.
Now, Kyogo isn’t diving around like Kasper Schmeichel, but it seems as though the striker’s opponents were aware of his issue.
That’s why Grant told Go Radio that the champions of Scotland were right to cash in when they did.
Yes, Celtic haven’t exactly walked on water since, but the club would never have got £10 million for him if he had stayed on and declined as he has done.
“We talk about Kyogo, we keep going back to that,” said Grant. “By all accounts, Kyogo needed an operation on his shoulder.
