Celtic were first linked with a move for Nathaniel Adjei two weeks ago and another outlet has now corroborated the first Sky Sports update.
It was difficult to know how seriously to take the initial report on Celtic and Adjei given that Rangers and several English clubs were also mentioned as interested. That can be a sign that there’s nothing much in a reported transfer link.
It was also surprising to hear that Celtic were keen on central defenders given the club have so many on the books at the moment.
However, Football Scotland reports their own information today that Celtic’s interest is indeed ‘legitimate’ in the sense that Bhoys scouts have been keeping a close eye on his progress in the Swedish top-flight.
Adjei plays for Hammarby and made 21 Allsvenkan appearances in 2023, helping his club to a seventh-placed finish in the able. Now the season is done, it looks like he’ll be attracting serious transfer attention in January.
Celtic need quality transfer additions
Celtic are expected to be busy in the winter window after an underwhelming summer period. Brendan Rodgers has called for an injection of quality into his Bhoys side with players who are ready to play regularly for the Scottish champions.

Adjei, still 21, may not have the proven quality of a player in one of Europe’s bigger leagues but has at least been playing regularly.
Celtic arguably need attacking talent more than anything with injuries taking their toll on Rodgers’ options and the looming Asian Cup set to pry away several of the Bhoys’ first-choice options.
In that context, diverting resources to snap up Adjei would still raise eyebrows. However, if the finances are right and other teams are in the hunt, Celtic may feel it’s not an opportunity they want to pass up.
