Adam Idah is closing in on a loan deal to Celtic from Norwich City on transfer deadline day.
Celtic fans have been demanding the club sign a striker to help star man Kyogo Furuhashi and back-up option, Hyeongyu Oh, who is currently on international duty.
Given that Adam Idah is going to be a Brendan Rodgers signing, you would expect him to push ahead of Hyeongyu Oh in the pecking order.
But Peter Grant feels that the South Korean star, at this moment in time, is ‘ahead’ of the Republic of Ireland International, as he told Go Radio.
Both players are 22 and are playing for nations that aren’t exactly powerhouses on the footballing stage, so quite a lot of the time, they are playing that underdog role.
Hyeongyu Oh has played under more pressure because he is at Celtic, whilst Adam Idah has spent his entire career at Carrow Road.
It’s going to be interesting to see how all of this pans out because this type of competition was needed.
Perhaps it will spark a few positive flames and, in turn, boost the performances out on the pitch because it’s needed – Joe Hart shared his honest thoughts on the fans booing after the win over Ross County.
But, until then, Bhoys legend Peter Grant has shared who is the better player – Hyeongyu Oh or Adam Idah?
Celtic’s striker options
“I would say Oh is ahead of him, at this moment in time,” said Grant. “That’s me, personally, because he is playing with the national team.
“The biggest problem Oh has got at this moment in time is that Kyogo is playing in front of him – anytime I have seen Oh when he has played, at his best and gets the minutes on the pitch, he is a handful and people don’t like to play against him.
“I have spoken to guys who have played against him and they say ‘I think he is hard to play against and whatever’. He misses a few chances.
“But, at this moment in time, I would say Oh is ahead. That’s only from what I have seen of young boy Idah.”
Kyogo Furuhashi is still the main man
Yes, Idah is about to join, but he still won’t start ahead of Kyogo, for the time being anyway.
The Japan star has been unbelievable for Celtic since joining, but the consistency levels haven’t been there during this campaign.
Despite that, in the bigger games, he has proven his worth, including scoring the winning goals against Rangers at Ibrox and Parkhead.
If Kyogo continues to be inconsistent, this now provides Rodgers with a chance to rotate more freely and be more ruthless in his selection.
