Celtic target Fares Ghedjemis says that he will decide on his future after the World Cup.

Ghedjemis has been widely linked with Celtic and other clubs, and came close to a move to Glasgow in January, opting to stay after the Hoops had agreed a fee.

His decision to stay was motivated by an urge to help Frosinone in their push for promotion from Serie B; he has now achieved this.

Now, his days at the club seem to be over — but he won’t be choosing his new destination any time soon.

Is Fares Ghedjemis worth the £6.5m Celtic appear willing to pay?

Fares Ghedjemis: ‘For now, my focus is on the World Cup’

Ghedjemis said his thanks for the Italian club, but insisted to Gazzetta Dello Sport: “It’s too early to talk about the future.

“For now, my focus is on the World Cup. We need to prepare well. Then we’ll see at the right time.

“I have to say this above all to president Stirpe, former director Guido Angelozzi, and his assistant Gianluca Longo, who came looking for me in the French third division.

“But also to coach Massimiliano Alvini: he gave me so many things, thanks to him, today I understand what kind of player and man I am.

“He told me to stay and that he would help me grow. He wants the best for everyone. He’s a great person.

“I thank general director Piero d’Oronzo, the new sporting director Renzo Castagnini, and the staff. The fans? I don’t know how I can say thank you to everyone.”

Ghedjemis is currently preparing for the World Cup with Algeria, to whom he switched allegiances from France earlier this season.

They will compete against Argentina, Jordan and Austria in Group F at this summer’s tournament, their first World Cup appearance since 2014.

Martin O’Neill said that reports linking the Hoops with the 23-year-old as well as Damir Redzic “weren’t a million miles away”.

Celtic’s January winger chase

Things could’ve been slightly more comfortable for O’Neill in the run-in if a goalscoring right-winger like Ghedjemis had been added to the ranks.

Instead, the Hoops were lefts scrambling for agent recommendations at the end of the window, resulting in the signing of Joel Mvuka.

Jocelin Ta Bi was initially pursued under the watch of Wilfried Nancy and Paul Tisdale, but the player joined Sunderland after issues with his Parkhead medical, and has just recovered from injury at the Stadium of Light.

Perhaps the worst thing about the Mvuka deal was that it was initially a £3 million permanent move, but was renegotiated into a loan after issues with his medical.
