Celtic transfer target Kwon Hyeok-kyu has confirmed he knows all about the Bhoys’ interest in his services and that he is excited about the potential opportunity to move to Scotland.

Kwon is widely reported to be the subject of a £1m offer from Celtic, who have contacted his club Busan about signing him up during the current transfer window.

The Scottish champions have already completed a move for compatriot Yang Hyun-jun this summer, with his club Gangwon announcing that £2.1m transfer on Saturday.

If Busan are ready to do business, it sounds as if Kwon will jump at the chance to become a part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

The midfielder said [Scottish Sun]: “The first time I heard about a transfer to Celtic was from a sergeant in the army when I was at Gimcheon Sangmu, so it was an unusual way for me to find out!

“When I heard that it was from Celtic, I was delighted. My first thought was that I would get the chance to play in the Champions League and become famous!

“This would be a great opportunity for me to improve my game and a huge chance to really challenge myself. If I get another offer from this club or a club in Europe, I will take it.”

Kwon is a tall, physical midfielder that will offer a different profile to the rest of this Celtic squad. At 6’3″ and as a defensively-minded disruptor, he’ll be a solid alternative option for Brendan Rodgers to turn to in the central areas.

He holds plenty of future potential too, currently aged just 22 and with ambitions to make an impact on the South Korean national team.

There’s never a guarantee with any signing, but Celtic’s track record in the market has been good in recent years, so there’s hope the Bhoys have found another winner here.
