On the one hand, many will be glad that the summer transfer window has slammed shut because it was a mess from start to finish.
It’s now up to Brendan Rodgers and Celtic captain Callum McGregor to try and steer the club towards more trophies, even though they have been dealt a bad hand by the board.
From selling key players in the winter and during the 2025 summer transfer window, and not properly replacing them, to not trying to go to the next level.
It’s been so abject that you have even been hearing from McGregor on the matter, and that’s pretty rare.

Callum McGregor speaks up about Celtic’s transfer business
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Andy Halliday has regularly heard calls from Celtic fans expressing their anger at the transfer situation, and everyone has also heard Rodgers’ dissatisfaction at times.
But Halliday stated you ‘never’ hear McGregor talk about Celtic’s off-field issues, but he has done so this time.
Following Celtic’s Champions League exit to Kairat Almaty, the skipper urged the powers that be to bring in the required players, and they haven’t done so.
“It’s not just about Celtic trying to progress or Celtic trying to add quality,” said Halliday.
“They are actually woefully short in quantity. They don’t have enough players in certain areas of the field.
“Do you know the most alarming part for me? We all have fans phoning in all the time. Brendan Rodgers has been asked about it in press conferences.
“Callum McGregor is actually referencing it in interviews. A guy who never talks about off-the-field issues with Celtic.”
Celtic players would have been ‘waiting’ for new players
Nobody is doubting Celtic’s domestic success; nobody has or is coming close to Scotland’s most successful club.
But you always need that refresh, and Halliday shared from a player’s point of view how you are always wanting ‘a good player’ to walk through the doors to ‘help you’.
And he feels the current crop of Celtic players would have been waiting for those new players to arrive.
“Every player will tell you, when you go into a new season, you have loads of hopes and loads of expectations,” added Halliday.
“If you are a good player, you want good players at the football club because you know they can help you.
“Every Celtic player will be waiting for that help and one bit of quality to come in and help them for their quest of Champions League football. The quest to win the league again. Even though they are waiting, ‘when is this player next coming in?’”
