Brendan Rodgers has made progress with Celtic in the Champions League this season.
The big step Celtic took was reaching the knockout stages of Europe’s elite competition for the first time in over a decade.
It’s hopefully a nod of what is to come, as Celtic now prepare for a difficult trip to Bayern Munich, where an almighty task awaits everyone in green and white colours.
That Daizen Maeda goal at Celtic Park has kept this Champions League playoff tie alive, but it still proves that there is a significant gap between the two clubs.
Of course, a lot of that has to do with the enormous finances, but there are methods Celtic have opted against going down in the transfer market that can help negate that.
Adam Idah’s purchase last summer, amongst others, is a prime example of that.

Celtic told they ‘made an offer’ for Lennon Miller during the January transfer window
Celtic fans would love the club to sign ‘ready-made’ players and perhaps that would bridge the gap in Europe.
But Stephen McGinn explained how the champions of Scotland ‘aren’t able’ to do that and they have to go down the road of ‘potential’, as he told Go Radio.
Whilst using Idah as an example, and his ‘not-so-good’ performance against Bayern, he revealed that the club ‘made an offer’ for Motherwell’s rising midfielder Lennon Miller in January.
“The market Celtic are dealing with, they obviously made an offer for Lennon Miller in January, so you aren’t getting ready-made (players),” explained McGinn.
“You aren’t able to sign ready-made. You look at Adam Idah against Bayern Munich. Adam Idah, has lots of potential, he has had some good games and some not-so-good games.
“It probably wasn’t his best night against Bayern because you are trying to play in the Champions League with guys you can’t afford ready-made Champions League players.”
Lennon Miller’s stats for Motherwell amid Celtic links
Kieran Tierney is re-joining Celtic in the summer and fans would love more signings of his ilk across the pitch because it would be game-changing.
But clearly, that’s now how Celtic’s model works and they are more prone to bring in Lennon Miller-like signings from Motherwell.

The 18-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough campaign in Motherwell colours and he is expected to sign for a team at the next level in the summer.
It’s just a case of whether Celtic snap him up because, as they proved with Luke McCowan, they do like going down this road.
