Cesc Fabregas is right with Nicolas Kuhn call and it’s not bitter from Celtic’s perspective

It seems like it’s already over before it even started for Nicolas Kuhn at Como.

The former Celtic winger departed Glasgow for Cesc Fabregas’ ever-improving side last summer, and already, he could be heading for the exit door.

That’s according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, who suggest that Kuhn, who joined the Serie A side for £16.5 million, is set to be part of a squad overhaul.

Despite competing against the giants of Italian football, including AC Milan and Juventus, the Lombardy-based side beat the duo to Champions League football last season, and now they have to prepare for the biggest stage in club football.

Celtic will be hoping to join Como in the Champions League next term, but, more than likely, Kuhn won’t be part of that party.

A very tough move for Nicolas Kuhn… where do you stand on bringing him back in the summer?

Nicolas Kuhn’s horror Como spell now ‘at risk’

This is brutal on many levels for Kuhn because, throughout the campaign, he has struggled not just for a spark, but for minutes on the pitch.

The 26-year-old only netted one goal and supplied two assists during his debut campaign in Italy, but he only started seven matches and completed 90 minutes on occasion.

Should Celtic fans be surprised by this? Probably not.

Yes, Kuhn was a title-winner in Glasgow, but let’s be honest, he only produced the good for six months.

His first six months after arriving during the January transfer window of 2024 from Rapid Wien was a struggle, then he got a pre-season under his belt, and smoked the league, including a brilliant brace against RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

However, from January onwards, Kuhn’s final season at Celtic, was indifferent, and he walked over the line.

And now he has hardly got going in the colours of Como, including the suggestion by Gazzetta dello Sport that the German ‘no longer fits into the tactical plans’ of Fabregas.

When you have players such as Argentina’s next superstar, Nico Paz, who came through at Real Madrid, setting the bar, including scoring 12 goals in Serie A last season, then it shouldn’t be a surprise that Fabregas is looking to let players like Kuhn go.

Celtic should stay well clear of Kuhn

Kuhn ended his Celtic career on a high, in terms of winning the domestic double under Brendan Rodgers, and it should be kept that way.

Yes, Martin O’Neill needs players who are the profile of Kuhn, but that doesn’t mean you should bring back the player himself.

The Hoops managed to bank some valuable money for him. Use it properly, rather than going back in for players again and again.

Either way, it will be interesting to see where Kuhn ends up next, because his career hasn’t taken off like he wanted it to when he decided to leave Celtic.
