It’s not what Celtic fans wanted and it’s probably not what Brendan Rodgers was hoping for as the January transfer window draws to a close

Hours remain before the deadline and fans are waiting for the main deal to through and that’s the loan signing of Adam Idah from Norwich City.

When assessing the January transfer window as a whole, Chris Sutton thinks most Celtic fans will be ‘underwhelmed’, as he told Deadline Day on Sky Sports (01/02/24 at 15:05 pm).

The former striker feels Brendan Rodgers himself will think the team is ‘a bit short’, and he isn’t wrong.

Yes, that much-needed striker is about to arrive, whilst the wide areas have enough numbers to pick from, but where is the left-back?

Greg Taylor is injured and it has left Alexandro Bernabei as the only senior left-back for the Celtic boss to pick from.

And unless the club springs a surprise from out of nowhere, Chris Sutton isn’t overly excited by what has and will be concluded by 11:30 pm on Thursday night.

Celtic’s January transfer window

“Not a great deal so far,” said Sutton about Celtic’s Jan window. “I think most Celtic supporters would be underwhelmed with the window so far, based on Brendan Rodgers, in the first half of the season, calling for greater quality.

“They have Nicolas Kuhn in, who Brendan said is better quality than what they have, then there is this call for another striker coming in, which was always going to be difficult, because as far as I can see, Kyogo is always going to start.

“But Adam Idah coming in on a loan, it looks like. It will be an opportunity for Adam Idah, who has been on the periphery at Norwich.

On how Rodgers will be assessing his squad: “The fact that they haven’t done a great deal of business. I know there are a few hours left. He will probably feel that the squad is a bit short.”

Winning and performing on the pitch

All that can happen now is for the wins to rack up, the performances to improve and the new signings to make their mark.

Continue to tick those boxes until the game at Ibrox, repeat the win from the start of the campaign, then the ball is going to be well and truly in Celtic’s court when it comes to winning the title.

It also needs to be remembered that fans have hardly seen the likes of Liel Abada, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate this season because they have either been injured or on national duty, or in Hatate’s case, both.
