Taylor Harwood-Bellis has confirmed his loan move to Burnley from Manchester City for the coming season, after being previously linked with Celtic.
The English Championship side announced the news moments ago.
Sky Sports reported earlier in the summer that Celtic were monitoring the England U21 captain’s situation and considering him as a potential option in the heart of the Bhoys defence.
However, the pull of City legend Vincent Kompany always made Turf Moor a likely destination so it’s not much of a surprise to see him pitch up there.
Harwood-Bellis has strong links to the former Belgium defender, having idolised him as a kid at City and also worked with him on loan at Anderlecht last season.
Back in March, the City prospect told the Manchester Evening News about working with Kompany, stating: “I have learned a lot playing under him and the standards he set. They are impeccable. He comes in every day and does everything he can to make himself and everyone better and he is a winner in the way he behaves and speaks.
“I feel I am on the right track to get on the right track to have the mindset he has. He made everyone around him get that boost with his stature. I noticed that massively when I played for him.”
Ultimately it’s unclear how interested Celtic actually were, but it’s understandable why Harwood-Bellis would have his hopes set on working with Kompany again.
His chances of regular first-team football at Burnley are also more certain given the talent already available to Ange Postecoglou.
Nonetheless, it’s a name to cross off your list if you are tracking transfers this summer. Harwood-Bellis definitely won’t be at Celtic Park next season.
