David Ornstein reports disappointing Kieran Tierney news for Celtic

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney is on the brink of a season-long loan move to La Liga side Real Sociedad, ending any Celtic hope of landing the former Bhoys talent.

Reliable journalist David Ornstein, of The Athletic, has reported that the two clubs are on the verge of an agreement and that Tierney could travel to undergo a medical as early as this weekend.

It’s stated that Tierney will make a move on loan, with no obligation or option for the Spaniards to buy him. However, Arsenal will be getting a healthy loan fee and the left-back’s wages paid – which would have obviously been a big barrier for Celtic to overcome.

Nothing is yet signed, but it seems that the much-discussed links to Celtic this summer have come to nothing and that Tierney will get a big opportunity to impress in La Liga.

Rodgers was being questioned about Tierney as recently as today, refusing to rule out a Celtic return but not being specifically drawn on recent links to his transfer.

The Bhoys boss did state that his former charge would be keen to head out and play football somewhere, rather than sit on the sidelines at Arsenal.

The news comes after it became apparent that Tierney was no longer even training with Mikel Arteta’s core group, omitted from proceedings today with a few other frozen-out players.

Arteta indicated earlier this summer that the Scotland international was a part of his plans this season and Tierney similarly said he wanted to fight for his place, but it seems now that the defender’s future lies away from London.

One day, he may return to Glasgow to play for the Bhoys. But the time isn’t right for the stars to align, unfortunately.

In other news, Brendan Rodgers now seeing “outstanding” signs in Celtic training after difficult week.
