Celtic-linked defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis recently got the chance to work with Gareth Southgate’s senior England squad, journalist Alan Nixon has reported today.

It’s said that the highly-rated Manchester City prospect trained with Southgate’s team last week for a tryout, before again playing for the U21 side.

Sky Sports believe Celtic are monitoring Harwood-Bellis’ situation this summer, with City set to send him out on loan for the season.

Nixon reports Burnley are also keen with Vincent Kompany, a City defensive legend, potentially taking charge of the English Championship club.

It’s said City are due to make a decision on his future this month.

Kompany has worked with the youngster before, taking him on loan to Anderlecht in the first half of last season. The youngster has publicly spoken of his admiration for the Premier League winner.

Harwood-Bellis’ involvement with Southgate demonstrates how highly rated he is within the England set-up. He has represented his country at every age group from U15 up.

The centre-back is now even the captain of the U21 side, appointed with that honour ahead of Euro qualifying matches in March.

He led the young England side to a victory away to Czech Republic on Friday, after his training opportunity.

Celtic interest in Harwood-Bellis makes sense

Celtic’s closest link with Harwood-Bellis comes through the new head of recruitment Mark Lawwell, who previously held a senior position within the City Group for a number of years.

He’ll be well aware of how much potential the young defender has.

It remains to be seen if the defender makes a move to Scotland, but he does look like a good option for Ange Postecoglou, who wants to round out his defensive options ahead of the new season.

Celtic are trying to bring Cameron Carter-Vickers to the club on a permanent basis, but another central option is needed with Christopher Jullien struggling to feature under the manager.

Japan international Ko Itakura is another City player being tracked by Celtic.

In other news, Celtic credited with interest in Lanus defender Julian Aude; Benfica also keen.
