Johnny Kenny has had an interesting pre-season with Celtic this summer.
The 22-year-old returned to Celtic in January after producing strong performances on loan at Shamrock Rovers, but he didn’t earn the minutes he would have liked.
| Club | Games | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shamrock Rovers | 76 | 26 | 8 |
Kenny played just over 200 minutes in all competitions, including scoring his first competitive goal during Celtic’s thrashing of Aberdeen in May – that was his only start.
Some Celtic fans suggested Kenny would be loaned out again, but he has been part of pre-season and scoring, including during the 4-0 win over Newcastle United last week.
But will the Irishman still be in Glasgow by the time the 2025 summer transfer window slams shut?

Transfer update on Johnny Kenny’s future as Bolton push for a deal
Bolton Wanderers are in League One, but a club of their size should be competing in the Premier League and not lurking in England’s third-tier.
The task is simple for them; they want to earn promotion to the Championship, and they have earmarked Kenny as a possible signing.
Transfer expert Alan Nixon has claimed that Bolton are hoping to ‘agree on a fee’ with Celtic for Kenny ‘this week.’
But Nixon suggested there is a ‘gap in valuation’, with the English side only wanting to pay ‘£500k’, but Celtic wanting ‘£1 million’ for their player.
‘Bolton Wanderers are hoping to agree a fee for Celtic striker Johnny Kenny (22) this week,’ eflpublished highlighted a report from Alan Nixon.
‘There is still a gap in valuation as Bolton want to pay £500K with add-ons and Celtic are looking for £1M guaranteed.’
Kenny to Bolton deal ‘stalls’
But it now seems as though Kenny might actually stay with Celtic because Bolton are looking at other options, according to Darren Witcoop.
The TEAMtalk journalist has claimed that Bolton’s move for Kenny has ‘stalled’, and they are now interested in Charlton striker Gassan Ahadme, as well as other strikers being offered to Steven Schumacher’s side.
‘Bolton interested in Charlton striker Gassan Ahadme as a deal for Celtic’s Johnny Kenny stalls,’ wrote Darren Witcoop.
‘QPR have also offered Alfie Lloyd to Bolton and League One clubs, with Leyton Orient eyeing a loan deal.’
