Celtic have got the ball rolling ahead of the new 2025/26 season.
The Celtic players have returned to pre-season, and you wonder how much of the current crop will still be in Glasgow by the time the transfer window slams shut?
The 2025 summer transfer window opened on June 16, and Brendan Rodgers already has three names through the door – Kieran Tierney, Ross Doohan, and Benjamin Nygren.
But looking towards the other direction, could Celtic possibly do a transfer deal with Bolton Wanderers this summer?
Bolton are one of the biggest clubs outside of England’s top flight, and they have been fighting to get back to normality for some while, as they have seemingly turned to Celtic’s rising star, Johnny Kenny, for answers.

Celtic and Bolton fans are mixed about Johnny Kenny’s future
It was reported by Sky Sports that Celtic ‘rejected a £500,000 bid’ from Bolton for their back-up striker, Kenny.
Some of the Celtic Park faithful are mixed about Kenny’s situation and what the club should do with his services amid this interest.
On the other side, Bolton fans were more positive about the player, but understood that they have little knowledge about what he is all about.
@90MinuteCynic questions Celtic’s call: ‘Celtic rejecting a bid from Bolton for Kenny and hoping to put him out on loan again. You have to wonder why? If there was a time at Celtic, he could have got game time, it would have been the 2nd half of last season? Will another season on loan prepare him any further?’
@cfc1888_ thinks another loan is a good choice: ‘Think he has potential personally, I wouldn’t have objected to him being third choice striker this season, so don’t mind loaning him out instead of selling him.’
@weepelewele explained why another loan is ‘useless’: ‘Is his contract not up next summer? A loan is useless if it is.’
@bhoysviews is clear: ‘Sell!’
This Bolton fan, @Ry_an_00, reacted to how Kenny is being viewed: ‘It makes me laugh how fans are deciding how much Kenny’s worth solely off a highlight video, most of which is in Ireland. You can put anyone’s highlights into a video and make them look like a world beater. Leave the valuation up to people who’ve actually watched him play.’
This Bolton fan, @BWFCSTEVENL, seemed intrigued: ‘Expected to make another offer. 👀👀’
@bwfc_elliot has his doubts: ‘Obviously have no idea how good he is or how big the budget is, but I’d be sceptical about spending much more than £750k on a striker. It is more urgent that we spend big on a defender/winger than on a striker.’
@Supera__Moras added his pennies worth: ‘No issues whether we sign Kenny or we don’t, but how many Bolton fans knew the lad existed before this week?! I know I didn’t. Now it’s ’spend £1m on this lad we’ve never heard of, or we are mid-table fodder’. I guess there’s nowt else to get worked up about.’
@KnowhereAndy wants Kenny sold: ‘Why are we not too keen to sell? Not good enough, get rid.’
@hxarv_ is keen for Kenny to join: ‘Just let us have him please, lads.’
@Ry_an_00 noted his European performances for Shamrock Rovers: ‘Never heard of him. But 7 goals in 9 games in European competitions last season is some going.’
Kenny’s contract at Celtic
Celtic have a big call to make, especially given that Rodgers is looking for another striker, regardless of whether Kenny leaves or not.
Kyogo Furuhashi hasn’t been replaced, and if you factor in Jota’s long-term injury, then Daizen Maeda will return and play on the left flank, so it makes needing another striker even more important.
But Kenny’s contract at Celtic expires during the summer of 2026.
Despite returning from his loan spell at Shamrock Rovers in January, he was handed just under 200 minutes by Rodgers, and it probably signalled where he stands in his manager’s plans.
