Will Celtic spring a surprise on transfer deadline day?

After a pretty poor 2025 summer transfer window, everything will come to a conclusion at 11 pm on September 1 when the window slams shut.

One key area on the agenda for Celtic and Brendan Rodgers is the striker position, with Adam Idah expected to join Swansea City on transfer deadline day.

Even before Idah’s exit, a proven goalscorer was needed, and many are expecting one to come in, but whilst Kasper Dolberg’s name has been doing the rounds, how about a certain Kieron Bowie, who is much closer to home?

Kieron Bowie and Celtic transfer suggestion

Following Celtic’s goalless draw to Rangers on Sunday, talk from Neil McCann turned to how ‘really poor’ the champions of Scotland were going forward.

McCann noted how the Hoops need a goalscorer before throwing the name of Hibernian’s high-flying machine, Bowie, on the table.

That took Chris Sutton by surprise, as he questioned whether his fellow Sky pundit knew something that others didn’t, as he stated on Sky Sports Football (31/08/25).

“Celtic were really, really poor,” said McCann. “They have got their issues that they need to address as well in the forward areas of the pitch.

“They were so poor. In the midfield areas, so poor. It has been a real strength of Celtic’s.

“Hearts are the ones looking and thinking, ‘right, maybe we have got a wee chance here.’ Hibs are strong this year.

“Do they stick with Bowie? Do Celtic come and have a wee nibble at Bowie?”

Sutton responded: “Do you know something? Have you heard something?”

McCann added: “I have just thrown it out there in case you have heard something.”

Bowie’s career stats

Whilst Celtic exited the Champions League last week, it was also European heartache for Hibernian, but at least they put up a serious fight.

Bowie has been at the heart of that, including scoring some ridiculous goals, and he has been rewarded by earning himself a call-up to Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad.

At the age of 22, Bowie has been clawing himself up the ladder, and now the goalscoring qualities are starting to shine through.
