It’s all gone quiet in regards to Celtic’s pursuit of Jakob Breum.

Celtic had multiple bids knocked back for Breum as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his wide options.

The 21-year-old played for Go Ahead Eagles in their 2-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Johan Cruyff Shield.

Go Ahead want £5m for Breum and it’s unknown if the Hoops will go back in for him but according to one Dutch pundit, Celtic should look at other options.

Jakob Breum would struggle at Celtic

Last season saw Breum score 11 goals in the Eredivisie and has caught the interest of several clubs.

However, Dutch pundit Kees Kwakman has said that the youngster should remain in the Netherlands for another year as he lacks the physicality to succeed, while Kenneth Perez thinks he is too small to thrive.

Kwakman told FC Update: “He needs to request Van Bommel’s physical program, because he suddenly gained seven kilos of muscle last summer. He could use that too. He’ll never be a physically strong player, of course, but he can still improve. If you can combine that with a full year of playing for Go Ahead, including in Europe, then I think he’ll be ready for the next step.”

Meanwhile, Perez added: “He’s so small! He’s good for the Dutch league, where you can indeed play like that. With a bit of nice play between the lines, being clever, and so on. He’s a beautiful footballer. But when you see what a footballer needs now to play at a higher level, it’s different than this.”

Jakob Breum hints he will stay at Go Ahead Eagles

It seems unlikely that he will head to Celtic Park this summer and Breum also seems to think he will be staying at his current club.

“Time will tell,” he told ESPN. “There’s still a month to go, so we’ll see.

“As long as I’m here, I’ll give everything for this team, every single time.

“I think I have a really important role now that key players have left. Other players will have to step up.”
