Evan Ferguson is being targeted by Galatasaray, it is being reported.

Celtic are one of many clubs who have closely been monitoring the Ireland striker, who has spent this season on loan at Roma.

Ferguson’s time in Italy hasn’t gone to plan, despite his brace at Celtic Park in the Europa League. Much of January has been spent in uncertainty over his immediate future.

Ferguson is still contracted to Brighton, but would’ve been expected to move elsewhere if recalled by them from his loan in Italy.

Injury issues have complicated matters, but the 20-year-old could still agree a move soon.

Celtic target Evan Ferguson targeted for move to Turkey

According to Turkish journalist Kutlu Akpinar, Ferguson is already being targeted for a summer move to Galatasaray.

The Turkish transfer window closes later than in the rest of the Europe, but this does not make a winter move for Ferguson possible.

That’s because Brighton would’ve had to recall Ferguson in order for him to move elsewhere, and it has been confirmed that this won’t be happening.

The Drogheda-born striker isn’t in the Roma squad for their clash with Udinese tonight due to an ongoing issue with his foot.

However, Ferguson’s future came into question after the Italian giants completed the signing of Donyel Malen from Aston Villa, seemingly pushing him even further down the pecking order.

John Arne Riise told Ferguson to join Celtic, claiming that a move to Glasgow would ‘suit’ him more than Italian football.

But he isn’t short on options, with a host of Premier League and Championship clubs also being linked this month.

A move to Galatasaray would potentially see him take the place of Mauro Icardi, whose contract at the Istanbul giants expires at the end of the season.

Peter Grant on Celtic target Evan Ferguson

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Hoops hero Peter Grant raised Ferguson as an ideal striker option for the Celts.

He said: “People criticise and say, ‘people make excuses, it’s a difficult window,’” insisted Grant. “It’s a very difficult window, especially for a number nine. Nobody wants to sell them if they are doing well.

“Ferguson was mentioned; he is somebody who could come in and do a job for Celtic. There is absolutely no doubt. He scored a couple of goals at Parkhead as well.

“I tell you, I think he is a right good player – absolutely (it would ignite the Celtic fans). It’s maybe one that could be hanging out there.”
