Fabrizio Romano drops Tyrell Malacia update as Celtic look to sign Manchester United star

Celtic are looking for that left-back option ahead of the January transfer window slamming shut on Monday evening.

Kieran Tierney will join Celtic in the summer, but in the meantime, Greg Taylor needs some cover, help and competition.

Alex Valle was the man pushing Taylor for a starting spot, but his loan spell was cut short, he was sent back to Barcelona and will now play for Cesc Fabregas at FC Como.

Some might call it poor planning, but it has left Brendan Rodgers short in that area ahead of deadline day and many fans are wondering who will arrive.

Of course, everyone wants it to be Tierney, but Arsenal will keep him on their books until the end of the season when his contract expires.

One man who has been doing the rounds as a potential option for the Bhoys is Manchester United left-back, Tyrell Malacia.

Tyrell Malacia won’t be joining Benfica amid Celtic interest

Malacia started Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League on Thursday night, but he was subbed off at half-time on a yellow card.

Celtic hold an interest in Malacia and they were handed a boost following Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on the player.

The transfer expert shared on Twitter that the Manchester United star’s move to Benfica has ‘definitely collapsed’, as other clubs look for his signature.

Given that Celtic have been previously mentioned, you presume, they are one of ‘several’ clubs who have asked about a loan request.

‘Tyrell Malacia’s loan move to Benfica from Man United has definitely collapsed,’ wrote Romano.

‘No agreement on loan fee and future buy option. Man United keep looking at options for Malacia as there are several loan requests’.

Malacia’s stats for Manchester United this season

The season has been a mess for Manchester United – once again – as they sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table after sacking Erik ten Hag in October.

Ruben Amorim is the man in charge now and he is already bringing in added quality at fullback in the form of Lecce’s versatile star, Patrick Dorgu.

You presume that’s why Malacia will be leaving, with the Dutch star playing just under 200 minutes for Manchester United this term and generating a rating of 6.23 by WhoScored.
