Celtic have once again been linked with a move for Al Ahly and Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Magdy Afsha, according to reports in his homeland.

The 26-year-old has spent his entire career in Egypt and has been playing for his current club for the past three years, having signed in 2019.

Celtic have been linked with several moves for Afsha over the years, with the player’s agent trying to stir up the Hoops’ interest.

With Celtic having already gotten their transfer business underway ahead of the January window, the club is bound to be linked to a number of different players.

And according to Egyptian outlet Elmaestroo, Ange Postecoglou is once again ‘interested’ in bringing the 20-time capped international to Parkhead.

The report states that after expressing an interest in Afsha last summer, the Bhoys are now looking to reignite their move for the player in the January window.

A source from Al Ahly has reportedly stated that Postecoglou’s side will look to bring the Egyptian international to the club on an initial loan deal with the option to buy.

However, if Celtic’s interest turns out to be true, it would not be an easy decision for Al Ahly to come to, with Afsha being one of their most important players.

The attacking midfielder has received reported interest from other leagues across Europe, including Turkey. However, the links to Celtic continue to arise.

Of course, it is always exciting to see the club being linked to new players—particularly more unknown quantities, with Ange Postecoglou looking to find more diamonds in the rough.

However, due to our previous links to the Al Ahly man, I think it is fair to say supporters should be taking these reports with a pinch of salt.

In the past, the player’s agent has used Celtic’s name in order to see his client rewarded with a new contract at the Egyptian side.

And even after Afsha had signed a new deal at his current side, his representative continued to talk up interest from Celtic, as well as Turkish duo Galatasaray and Besiktas.

There might have been some genuine interest in the player at one stage from Ange Postecoglou. However, these continued transfer links appear to suggest it was never that serious.

The Celtic boss isn’t the sort of person you would want to be messing around with in the transfer window. If he isn’t able to get the option he wants or he feels that he is being messed around, then he will simply move on.

It should be interesting to see if anything comes from these reports in Mohamed Magdy Afsha’s homeland, with the midfielder potentially looking to move on in January.

However, at this stage, I would personally be surprised if a move from the Hoops materialised due to the several previous links that have never come to fruition.
