Celtic will have to move pretty quickly once the summer transfer window opens.

Following Kyogo Furuhashi’s exit, the powers that be at Celtic Park didn’t bring in a replacement and it frustrated the fans.

Brendan Rodgers can’t afford to be left short ahead of next season because Celtic have to qualify for the Champions League and those matches take place in July.

Everyone is aware that Kieran Tierney will return to his boyhood club when his contract at Arsenal expires and that’s music to the fans’ ears.

But supporters have to also prepare for the uncomfortable and that’s the possibility of someone heading for the exit door.

Last summer, Celtic sold Matt O’Riley to Brighton for a club-record transfer, this was a case of the champions just not being able to turn down the big money from the Premier League.

Neil Lennon was asked if another big sale will happen…

Neil Lennon highlights Arne Engels and Luke McCowan amid talk of ‘big sale’ at Celtic

The perfect scenario would be for Rodgers to keep his best players, sign the ready-made ones and then kick on from there.

But the environment Celtic are in doesn’t allow that, as Neil Lennon touched upon the ‘unbelievable success’ the club has had in the market for the last ’20 years’.

The former midfielder suggested there will be another ‘big sale’ by stating, ‘that’s the point’ of the model, as he referred to players like Arne Engels and Luke McCowan, as he told Premier Sports (23/02/25 at 1:15 pm).

“That’s why Brendan wants to push on and that’s where Celtic want to be, in the Champions League big stages,” said Lennon.

“They had a great campaign. You want to improve on that, if you can. They made a lot of money from the campaign this year. Their player trading model is exceptionally good, so Brendan will look at that in the summer and strengthen areas he feels he will need to.

On if there will be a big sale in the summer: “That’s the point. There are a lot of assets in that team and in that squad. O’Riley went in the summer for £30 million. He was a great player and had a fantastic season.

“The evolution of the team, if anything, Celtic have improved again this year. Then you go and get a player like Engels and McCowan, who has gone under the radar really, then turn them into assets.

“They have been working like this for the last 15-20 years with unbelievable success.”

Noise around Nicolas Kuhn’s future

Last January, Celtic signed Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Wien and he took time to settle into Glasgow.

Those early struggles were out of the window by the time the first ball was kicked this campaign and he could argue that he has been Celtic’s best player this term – although, Daizen Maeda will have something to say about that.

The only issue with all of this is that Kuhn’s form, including goals in the Champions League against RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich, have attracted interest from the Premier League.

It has been suggested by the Daily Mail that Newcastle United have ‘scouted’ Kuhn.

Fans will be hoping teams stay away from their star assets because that could be the best business the club concludes.
