Who will be Celtic’s next striker? That’s the million-dollar question, as the business end of the January transfer window nears.
One man who has been linked to Celtic, and who was also mentioned in the summer, is Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana.
What’s interesting is that Chelsea have recalled Fofana from his loan spell in Turkey, where he was representing bottom-of-the-table Fatih Karagümrük S.K.
But Frank McAvennie expressed what worries him about the 23-year-old, as Celtic’s striker wait goes on and on.

Frank McAvennie states what ‘frightens’ him about Celtic wanting to sign David Datro Fofana
Fofana is having a strong season, despite Fatih Karagümrük S.K. sitting at the bottom of Turkey’s top-tier, only on nine points and heading towards relegation.
He has scored eight goals in 15 games in all competitions for a team that has lost 11 games this season.
Upon hearing the news that Fofana is going to return to Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea looks to sell him for good during the January transfer window.
McAvennie told his Let Me Be Frank Podcast that what ‘frightens’ him about the whole situation is that his current loan club themselves don’t want to buy him outright, and he thinks that’s an issue.
Simon Houston: “There is another one as well, that has been doing the rounds, David Fofana of Chelsea. He was on-loan in Turkey.
“Chelsea have recalled him; it looks as though they are preparing to sell him. Celtic have been linked to him.”
McAvennie: “What kind of money?”
Houston: “I am not sure what the fee is, but it doesn’t look as though it would be outwith Celtic’s purse strings.”
McAvennie: “It frightens me that he has gone to Turkey on loan, and they don’t want to buy him. You have to look at it that way.”
Fofana is struggling to find a home as Celtic express interest
Fofana signed for Chelsea in 2023 from Molde, and like many players who sign for the London club, he has spent more time on loan than at his parent club.
The Ivory Coast star has made only four appearances for Chelsea, and has been loaned out four times during that period.
He clearly hasn’t been able to find a regular home since moving to the Bridge, and you just wonder if that’s a player problem or just his club and the way they operate.
