Maik Nawrocki’s Celtic future suddenly looks far less clear after a new BILD report outlined three different scenarios for the defender this summer.
The most telling part of the update is that Celtic do not appear to have reached a final decision yet.
Nawrocki remains under contract until 2028, meaning the Scottish champions still control the situation entirely.
Maik Nawrocki’s Hannover 96 loan spell has ended. What next?
Nawrocki missed out on promotion with Hannover
Three possible outcomes for Maik Nawrocki’s Celtic future
BILD’s report claims there are currently three realistic pathways being considered:
- Celtic reintegrate Nawrocki into their plans and offer him regular playing time next season.
- Celtic decide they are willing to sanction a permanent transfer if the right offer arrives from abroad.
- Celtic reject a sale and instead pursue another loan move, with Hannover 96 viewed as strong contenders because of the defender’s standing at the club and the level of the Bundesliga 2.
That uncertainty says plenty about Nawrocki’s current standing at Celtic Park. The club do not wish to sell him right now.
This does not look like a player Celtic are desperate to move on from immediately. Equally, it does not sound like somebody guaranteed a major role under Rodgers next season either.
A loan still feels like the most logical Celtic solution for Nawrocki
Another temporary move may ultimately suit everybody involved.
Nawrocki has struggled for consistent opportunities at Celtic despite arriving as a highly-rated signing from Legia Warsaw in 2023.
Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales remained ahead of him in the defensive pecking order for much of last season.
A permanent exit now would also risk Celtic taking a poor return on their investment, especially with Nawrocki’s reported market value currently sitting at around €1.5 million.
If Hannover can offer guaranteed football again, Celtic may view another loan as the best compromise while they continue evaluating whether Nawrocki still has a long-term future in Glasgow.
According to BILD, a final decision could reportedly arrive as early as this week.
