Hannover 96 have confirmed their plans for talks with Maik Nawrocki.

The Celtic defender enjoyed a positive season on loan in his country of birth, though it ended in agony for the German second tier side.

They missed out on promotion on the final day of the season by failing to beat Nurnberg, consigning them to another season in the 2. Bundesliga.

Hannover would like to keep Nawrocki, but he could be a man in demand.

Sporting director Ralf Becker said: “All of our loan players will return now to their parent clubs.

“We will also hold talks with the loaned players and their clubs, so that staying on may be possible in individual cases.

“Of course, the disappointment is still lingering for all of us. Nevertheless, it was important for us to close the season off and say our farewells to the players for now.”

Speaking shortly before the end of the campaign, Nawrocki himself said: “There are several options for me at the end of the season.

“I could stay here, go back to Celtic or maybe go somewhere completely different. This loan move has worked out very well for me.

“It was important that I played regularly again after two years of hardly playing. The way we play is also good for me.”

Bundesliga clubs are reportedly interested in Nawrocki, casting doubt over whether or not Hannover will be able to complete the move.

Should he make his move to the Saxony club permanent, however, the £2 million fee would mark a notable loss on the £4.3 million paid to bring him to Glasgow from Legia Warsaw in 2023

Despite the fee, Brendan Rodgers used him sparingly over two seasons. There were issues with injuries, but for the most part, the defender was available to the Irishman.

Liam Scales, Stephen Welsh and Nat Phillips were used more than the Poland international. Gustaf Lagerbielke, signed in the same season in the same position, faced a similar fate.

Lagerbielke had his own successful loan away from Glasgow last season at FC Twente in the Netherlands. This earned him a permanent move to Braga, where he is now attracting interest from the Premier League.
