‘From the noises I’ve heard’ – Ross McCormack delivers Celtic sucker punch in Lennon Miller pursuit

Lennon Miller is a player who has been courted by Celtic for what feels like forever.

The Motherwell youngster has enjoyed a brilliant season domestically and impressed on the senior stage, with Scott Brown hailing Miller’s ‘mature’ senior Scotland debut.

Brendan Rodgers meanwhile is working hard behind the scenes to recruit new players and has already got Kieran Tierney to return to Celtic.

A deal to sign Benjamin Nygren also seems close and the addition of Miller would be the icing on the cake.

But if Ross McCormack’s verdict is anything to go by, it sounds like he may slip away from the Hoops.

Lennon Miller won’t join Celtic according to Ross McCormack

There have been doubts from the likes of Chris Sutton over the signing of Miller and the interest in the midfielder is rising.

Sunderland and clubs in Italy are also rumoured to be interested and while McCormack thinks that he would be “perfect” for Celtic, his inside knowledge suggests his future lies elsewhere.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, he said: “I’ve said it for quite a while that I think he would be perfect in Celtic’s midfield.

“But from all the noises that I have heard – sort of people who are in and around Motherwell and all that – seems to be that he is going to be going abroad.

“When he sees the success your Lewis Ferguson, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour’s are having over in Serie A, he might just want a piece of that and sort of get out of the limelight which Glasgow would bring.

“For me, he would be absolutely tremendous for Celtic.”

Celtic could be involved in bidding war for Lennon Miller

Despite being labelled as one of the best up and coming talents in Scotland, there will be a slight worry about paying over the odds to sign Miller.

Anywhere between £4-£5m may be enough to twist Motherwell’s arm but if clubs with more money across the globe also make moves, there’s no reason why the Steelmen could squeeze more out of others.

If that is to be the case, it could even mean a fee as high as £8m. For all of his talent and potential, that may lead to Celtic thinking twice about a deal.
